Google Pixel's New Transit Mode: How to Use It

Google has quietly introduced a new Transit mode in Android 16 QPR3 that automatically adjusts settings during commutes. The feature, available on Pixel 7 and newer models globally except in Europe and the UK, switches sound modes, manages Bluetooth, and filters notifications when your phone detects you're in transit.

Transit mode builds on Pixel's existing Modes feature, which replaces traditional Do Not Disturb with customizable notification behaviors. Users can access it through Settings > Modes > Transit and customize alerts, contacts, and apps. The feature can automatically silence your phone, toggle Bluetooth, and control which notifications appear during your commute.

To use Transit mode effectively, you'll need to grant background location access for Google Maps, set your home and work locations, and allow the system to learn your commute patterns over two to three weeks. Google is also expanding commute information in the At a Glance widget to show delay reasons along your regular route. This thoughtful addition makes Pixel's Modes feature even more useful for daily commuters.
