Google Fixes Android Driving Mode Bluetooth Activation

Google has finally addressed Android's Driving Mode limitations by restoring Bluetooth-based automation. The feature now triggers when connected to a car's Bluetooth instead of relying solely on motion detection, which caused previous activation issues. This update makes Driving Mode far more practical for Pixel users who previously had to manually enable the feature.

The fix brings back functionality that existed before but was later removed, addressing years of user complaints. Driving Mode is part of Google's Modes system that filters notifications during specific activities like driving. The update, spotted in version 26.05.32 of Google Play Services, allows users to choose between Bluetooth-only activation or Bluetooth plus motion detection.

To enable the improved automation, users must navigate through Settings > Modes > Driving and activate the While driving toggle. The option to select Bluetooth-based activation appears under the arrow next to this toggle. This change puts Google closer to Samsung's implementation that automatically activates Driving Mode when using Android Auto, providing a more seamless experience for drivers.
