Google Photos Ask Photos AI Editing Feature Explained

Google Photos has introduced Ask Photos, a new AI-powered feature that simplifies photo editing through natural language prompts. Instead of manually navigating through the app's extensive editing tools, users can now type requests like "fix the lighting" or "center the person in the image" and let the AI handle the adjustments automatically.

This feature, accessible through the Help me edit text field in the Google Photos editor, leverages the app's full suite of editing capabilities including cropping, color adjustments, and Magic Eraser. The tool is currently rolling out to personal Google accounts in the U.S., though users must opt-in and grant permissions for face matching and location estimation. Google emphasizes that while it processes prompts for AI training, it doesn't use actual photos or videos for model training.

Ask Photos represents a significant shift in how users interact with photo editing software, making professional-quality adjustments accessible to everyone regardless of technical expertise. The feature also includes C2PA Content Credentials for transparency, clearly marking which edits were made with AI versus traditional tools. This addresses growing concerns about image authenticity while maintaining the convenience of AI-assisted editing.
