Google Home gets AI‑powered automation editor

Google has refreshed the automation editor in its Home app, giving users a cleaner UI and expanded device support. The update adds dedicated blocks for security systems, door locks, and binary sensors, while appliances now accept start, stop, pause and resume commands. Switches can trigger presses, long presses and releases, and robot vacuums can dock or resume within a routine.

Creating a routine follows a three‑step flow: select a Starter such as a device event, presence detection, voice command or schedule; optionally add Conditions like time of day or another device state; then define Actions ranging from broadcasts to device controls, notifications, delays or Ask‑Google queries. The editor adapts options to the specific gadgets in a household for you right now.

Google’s Gemini AI now offers a “Help me create” shortcut; users describe the desired behavior in natural language and Gemini assembles the Starter, Condition and Action blocks automatically. After a preview, the routine can be edited or saved with a single tap. With the new editor and AI assistance, even novice owners can deploy sophisticated Nest‑compatible automations without manual scripting.
