Google announced Tuesday that it's expanding Gemini for Home beyond its own devices, opening the platform to third-party carriers, hardware manufacturers, and service providers. The move transforms Gemini from a Google-exclusive assistant into a licensable AI platform that partners can integrate into their own smart home products.

The new Gemini built-in program targets hardware makers creating consumer devices like speakers and cameras. Partners gain access to Google's Camera Reference Design and voice capabilities, eliminating the need to develop AI research in-house. Hardware companies can now focus on delivering exceptional user experiences while leveraging Gemini's underlying technology.

Google is also integrating Home Premium subscriptions with carriers like AT&T, ISPs, and security companies. This partnership brings features like Home Brief—a daily home activity summary—and advanced deterrence capabilities that make homes appear occupied. AT&T is already implementing these features through its Connect Life app.

Smart camera capabilities received significant upgrades, allowing devices to visually identify and describe specific events rather than sending generic alerts. Cameras can now distinguish between deliveries, door visitors, and other important activities, with enhanced filtering options for person detection and glass break events.
