Meta is giving away 15,000 Ray-Ban Meta glasses to Vision Ireland, the country's national sight loss charity. The glasses will be distributed for free to every blind and visually impaired adult the charity supports. Interested individuals can register through Vision Ireland's website.

Meta has faced criticism over the glasses' potential for surreptitious recording. The company responded by promising to disable cameras in glasses whose recording LEDs have been tampered with. Recently, code in the Meta AI app hinted at possible facial recognition features.

Despite concerns, the glasses offer significant assistance: they can read text aloud, identify objects, and describe surroundings to help users complete tasks safely. Through a partnership with Be My Eyes, users can call volunteers for help with simple tasks like choosing an outfit or finding milk in a grocery store.

Those interested can register on Vision Ireland's website or call +353 1 882 1910. Vision Ireland will select eligible applicants and provide in-person training and support.
