Meta is introducing a new opt-out feature allowing users to prevent their visual data from being used to train AI models. This change comes amid ongoing privacy backlash against the company's AI-powered smart glasses. Previously, images and videos captured while using Meta AI were used for training, often without clear user awareness.

The company has historically been vague about how camera data is handled. Now, users can stop their camera-based interactions from being used for model training. Meta clarified that opted-out visual data is used solely to answer the user's query and is then deleted.

It will not be shown to third-party contractors internationally. Importantly, this opt-out applies only to visual data; audio interactions with Meta AI remain fair game for training and review, though users can manually delete those recordings. The update addresses concerns raised by privacy critics and a potential class-action lawsuit.

Additionally, Meta recently unveiled a new line of Ray-Ban-branded glasses designed without cameras. This move signals the company's effort to balance AI functionality with user privacy concerns.
