Meta has removed a critical satirical video about its AI Glasses from Facebook and Instagram, which was filmed by Dutch producer Roel Maalderink at the company's Amsterdam office. The video, created with the Dutch foundation Bits of Freedom, showed Maalderink asking employees their opinions on the glasses while filming them. Meta cited potential bullying and harassment content as the reason for removal, though the video remains accessible on YouTube. Maalderink noted it was his first removal after ten years of boundary-pushing content covering topics like Gaza, Ukraine, and refugees.

Eva de Goeij, a researcher at Bits of Freedom, stated the takedown illustrates Meta's control over public discourse, arguing there is no space for self-criticism within its systems. The 'spy glasses,' equipped with cameras, have previously drawn scrutiny for alleged secret filming of women, prompting concerns from political parties, the Dutch Data Protection Authority (AP), and the Consumers' Association (Consumentenbond), which has called for a ban due to privacy threats.
