Chrome Android Tablets Get Desktop-Style Bookmarks Bar

Google is rolling out a major usability upgrade to Chrome on Android tablets and foldables with the addition of a bookmarks bar. The feature, arriving in Chrome version 146, brings a desktop-like browsing experience to larger-screen devices by placing saved sites directly below the address field. This mirrors the familiar desktop interface that many users have relied on for years.

Previously, accessing bookmarks on Android tablets required multiple taps through the three-dot menu. Now, users can see their favorite sites' names and icons at a glance, with an expand button for viewing all bookmarks. The implementation spans the full width of the top section, making it easy to open frequently visited websites with a single tap.

To enable the feature, users need to update to Chrome 146 and toggle 'Show bookmarks bar' in Settings under Appearance. Some may need to force stop and restart the app for it to appear. The rollout is already underway, with early adopters on devices like the Oppo Find N5 reporting success. This update closes a usability gap that has long made Chrome on tablets feel inferior to the desktop experience, bringing foldables and large-screen Android devices closer to their desktop counterparts.
