Opera One browser has introduced a Vertical Tabs option, relocating the tab bar to a resizable panel on the left side of the window. This feature addresses the common issue of horizontally arranged tabs becoming unreadable when numerous pages are open, ensuring page titles remain legible.

Opera's existing Tab Islands grouping functionality is integrated into the vertical layout, collapsing when screen space is limited. The update also incorporates Google Lens into the start page search bar for image searches. Opera joins other major browsers that have adopted vertical tabs, including Microsoft Edge in May 2021, Mozilla Firefox in March 2025, and Google Chrome in April.

While Apple's Safari offers Tab Groups navigable from the sidebar, it lacks a dedicated vertical tabs mode. This raises the question of whether Safari users desire such a feature or if Tab Groups suffice.
