Qualcomm Apple Chip Dispute Ends

The Qualcomm "double-dipping" dispute that spanned years has finally concluded, with Apple's former claims and a separate UK class-action lawsuit both abandoned. Apple had accused the chipmaker of charging twice for iPhone radio technology, a practice the Cupertino company vehemently opposed.

Qualcomm faced allegations of requiring customers to sign patent license agreements before purchasing chips, effectively charging once for the hardware and again for embedded technology. This "no license, no chips" policy forced Apple to pay a percentage of iPhone prices rather than fixed fees per component, escalating tensions between the tech giants.

A UK lawsuit brought by Which? on behalf of 29 million iPhone and Samsung buyers seeking £480 million in compensation has now been withdrawn, with the claim unlikely to succeed. The resolution comes as Apple continues its transition toward developing proprietary radio chips, reducing dependence on Qualcomm's technology.
