Reports suggest the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro could mark a significant shift away from Qualcomm cellular modems, potentially adopting Apple's in-house C2 chip across the entire lineup. For years, Qualcomm has been the primary modem supplier for iPhones, though Apple has been developing its own chips, including the C1X, and has begun incorporating them into some models.

While previous leaks hinted at a split approach, with Qualcomm modems potentially used in the US market for the iPhone 18 Pro, recent statements from Qualcomm's CEO, Cristiano Amon, suggest a more drastic departure. Amon indicated that Qualcomm expects revenue from Apple products to decline significantly starting in the fourth quarter, with its share of components in the next iPhone launch falling well below 20%. This implies a minimal presence for Qualcomm modems in the new iPhone models.

Given that only three new iPhone models are anticipated, and one is positioned as a premium, less common option, this further strengthens the possibility that the iPhone 18 Pro and its variants will entirely phase out Qualcomm modems. This could mean the C2 chip will be standard globally, even in the US, fulfilling long-standing rumors and Apple's strategic goals.
