iPhone 18 Pro Max May Get Exclusive Camera Features

Whether you need to buy Apple's largest iPhone Pro for the best camera has varied by generation. So far, reporting has mostly suggested no camera differentiation between the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, but a leaker casts doubt. Specifically, they say two new features expected for both Pro models "may" now be exclusive to the Pro Max.

The iPhone 17 Pro and Pro Max offer identical camera specs with 48MP sensors across all three rear cameras. Apple claims 8x optical zoom via 24MP cropping, though it's effectively 4x optical with cropped 8x. Expectations were that both iPhone 18 Pro models would retain camera parity with variable aperture main lens and wider-aperture telephoto for better low-light performance.

However, leaker Ice Universe says the two new telephoto lens features may be exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro Max. The Pro Max model may feature 6x optical zoom and advanced five-refraction prism technology, while the Pro version might offer 5x–6x zoom. If accurate, this means the Pro Max would be required for greatest telephoto reach and best low-light performance.

The use of "may" suggests uncertainty, possibly due to conflicting supply chain evidence. Reports also suggest the variable aperture system for the main camera might be exclusive to the Pro Max, though conflicting reports exist.
