Bloomberg reports that Apple's camera-equipped AirPods, codenamed B798 and B790, remain on track for a 2027 release despite an accidental demo video leak. The video, found in the macOS 26.7 Release Candidate, showcased Visual Intelligence running on AirPods, suggesting an earlier announcement. However, Mark Gurman confirms the product timeline has been pushed back.

The B790 version, based on AirPods Pro 3 with added sensors and AI, was previously slated for 2026 but is now delayed. The B798 version represents a new generation with integrated cameras. While the B790 appears closer to completion with references in iOS 27 code, Apple's official stance keeps both iterations targeted for 2027.

The leak has sparked privacy concerns among users, with some dubbing the devices 'pervertpods.' However, Gurman notes the cameras use low-resolution sensors designed only to scan environments and provide context to Siri and AI tools, not to capture photos or videos. Despite the controversy and speculation, Apple maintains its 2027 timeline for the camera-equipped AirPods launch.
