Apple AirPods with Cameras May Hit Market This Year

Apple’s first camera‑equipped AirPods could launch as soon as next month, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports. The company has spent years developing the device, originally coded B798 under its AI wearables push that also includes smart glasses and a wearable AI pendant. That version was slated for a 2026 release before moving to 2027.

Gurman noted a separate project, coded B790, is closer to production. Parts of the B790 hardware have surfaced in iOS 27’s code and are listed internally as a candidate to ship before the year ends. Developer Sam Henri Gold confirmed the codename in the second iOS 27 beta, confirming the project’s existence.

The cameras won’t record video; instead, sensors will feed a live view of the wearer’s surroundings to Siri, integrating with Visual Intelligence tools. Because the new model is expected to cost more than the $249 AirPods Pro 3, Gurman said Apple is weighing an “AirPods Ultra” branding rather than “AirPods Pro 4.” If the B790 model arrives, a September debut alongside new iPhones is likely, while the fuller‑featured B798 version remains slated for late 2027.
