Apple Camera AirPods Delayed to 2027 Despite Leak

Apple's camera-equipped AirPods will not launch until 2027 despite a leaked demo video discovered in the macOS Tahoe 26.7 release candidate, reports Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The video showcased the earbuds scanning a book for Siri to read aloud, but people familiar with the product confirm they won't arrive anytime soon.

The delay is due to ongoing supply chain and software challenges. The B790 model, a version of the AirPods Pro 3 with cameras, was previously on Apple's 2026 roadmap but has since been shelved. A second variant, the B798, represents a new generation of AirPods Pro with cameras.

The 2027 launch models will feature low-resolution cameras that feed visual data to Siri for Visual Intelligence features, rather than capturing photos or videos. Apple may debut these AirPods alongside the 20th-anniversary iPhone in fall 2027.

Gurman's reporting on the timeline has been inconsistent, shifting from advanced testing in May to a September 2026 launch prediction in early August before settling on the 2027 timeframe.
