Apple’s iOS 27 beta introduces a brand‑new extra‑large widget size, expanding the maximum footprint to a 4 × 6 grid—essentially a full Home Screen page. The change follows rumors about an upcoming iPhone Ultra, whose larger display can finally showcase these massive panels. By moving beyond the previous 4 × 4 “large” widgets, users gain dramatically more real‑estate for information. Developers can already test the layout in Xcode.

In beta 1, eleven native apps ship with extra‑large widgets: Calendar (List, Up Next), Home (Accessories), Music (Recently Played, Recommendations, Top Charts), News (Today, Topic), Notes (Folder, Quick Note), Photos (Album, Featured), Reminders (List), Shortcuts, Stocks (Watchlist) and TV (Continue Watching). The larger canvas lets each app display richer data—full‑day calendars, multi‑track playlists, or extended note previews. Users can drag these panels onto any screen.

The new widgets immediately address long‑standing complaints about iPhone widget scarcity, giving power users a way to glance at packed schedules or extensive to‑do lists without opening apps. Apple may add more extra‑large options before the final release, but the current lineup already demonstrates a commitment to deeper Home Screen personalization. iOS 27 thus reshapes daily interaction on larger iPhones. Early adopters feel productivity spikes.
