BowFlex T6 review: GymKit at home for $999

If you use an Apple Watch with cardio equipment, GymKit should be on your radar. It’s the best way for Apple Watch and a fitness machine like a treadmill to exchange workout data, producing more accurate measurements. Apple introduced GymKit with watchOS 4 in 2017, but compatible equipment has remained surprisingly difficult to find. Now, you no longer need to spend around $15,000 on a GymKit treadmill. Instead, you can spend around $999 on the BowFlex T6 treadmill.

GymKit provides a two-way connection between Apple Watch and compatible machines. Without it, each device has gaps. Anthony Winge, Director of Product Development at Johnson Health Tech, explains that calories, speed, distance, pace, time, incline, and heart rate sync in real time. Pairing is simple—you can even connect after starting a workout. Once connected, Apple Watch offers four GymKit workout choices: Indoor Walk, Indoor Run, Time to Walk, and Time to Run.

The BowFlex T6 is priced at $999 (reg. $1,299), roughly one-tenth of previous GymKit models. It avoids an expensive built-in touchscreen, instead offering a console with an adjustable shelf for your own device. The surprise highlight is the dial controls on the hand grips—right for speed, left for incline—making adjustments fast and natural. Combined with GymKit support and solid fundamentals (20x60-inch deck, 12 mph, 15% incline, folding), it’s an excellent budget-friendly home treadmill.
