Intel Begins Apple iPhone Chip Production

Intel has started manufacturing iPhone processors for Apple, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. The chipmaker has kicked off initial production of low-end and legacy iPhone, iPad, and Mac chips using its 18A-P series with Foveros packaging. This marks a swift move following the recent partnership deal between the two tech giants.

Kuo's report specifies that the order mix is roughly 80% iPhone, aligning with Apple's device sales. Production will follow a staged timeline: small-scale testing in 2026, ramping in 2027, and continued growth through 2028 before a decline in 2029. Apple is also evaluating Intel's other advanced-node technologies.

This diversification reduces Apple's reliance on TSMC, which still commands over 90% of Apple's chip supply. By adding Intel as a secondary source for older-generation silicon, Apple mitigates risk in its complex supply chain without disrupting its cutting-edge processor flow from Taiwan.
