India court forces Apple to aid antitrust probe

Delhi’s High Court has ordered Apple to cooperate with the Competition Commission of India in the App Store antitrust probe, refusing Apple’s request to pause the case. The regulator earlier issued an ultimatum for Apple to hand over financial data, a demand the tech giant says exceeds Indian judicial authority. It focuses on revenue streams from subscriptions, purchases and hardware sales tied to iPhone ecosystem.

Apple challenged India’s revised competition law, which permits penalties based on worldwide turnover rather than domestic revenue. In May, the CCI scheduled a final hearing for May 21, prompting Apple to firmly petition the Delhi High Court for a stay. The regulator accused the firm of seeking repeated extensions and stalling the investigation while refusing to provide the requested documents.

The court’s order compels Apple to submit unspecified documents to the CCI but bars the regulator from issuing a final decision before the case returns on July 15. By forcing cooperation, the ruling keeps the dispute alive and could shape how multinational tech firms disclose financials to foreign competition authorities, underscoring India’s assertive enforcement posture.
