A proposed class action lawsuit has been filed against Apple, accusing the company of misleading users about the privacy protections offered by its "Hide My Email" feature. The lawsuit, filed by California resident Anthony Alvarez, claims Apple has been aware for over a year of a flaw that could expose users' real email addresses behind the generated aliases.

According to reports, a security researcher alerted Apple to the vulnerability in June 2025. While Apple reportedly acknowledged the issue, it allegedly remained unresolved for an extended period. The plaintiff states that both iCloud+ subscribers and general Apple customers have paid for privacy assurances that the feature may not fully provide, with claims suggesting the value of the proposed class members' claims exceeds $5 million.

The lawsuit seeks to represent various groups of affected Apple customers nationwide and in California, including iCloud+ subscribers. Alvarez is requesting a jury trial and is asking the court to compel Apple to either fix the alleged flaw or provide clear disclosures about the feature's limitations. Apple has not yet commented on the lawsuit.
