Subaru's Largest EV Yet: Three-Row SUV in 2026

Subaru is expanding its electric vehicle lineup with a new three-row SUV coming in 2026, confirming plans for its largest EV to date. COO Jeff Walters told Autoblog the vehicle will target households with two cars and access to charging infrastructure. This electric SUV is expected to share architecture with the upcoming 2027 Toyota Highlander EV.

Subaru currently offers the Solterra, Trailseeker, and Uncharted EVs, with the three-row model filling a critical gap in its lineup. The automaker's only other three-row crossover, the Ascent, struggles with cramped third-row seating and an unrefined powertrain. The electric version is expected to address these shortcomings while likely becoming Subaru's most expensive model at around $55,000.

Launching an expensive EV during cooling demand presents challenges for Subaru. Sales of competing three-row electric SUVs like the Kia EV9 and Hyundai Ioniq 9 have declined significantly, with Kia selling just 674 units in January 2026. Subaru's strategy focuses on dual-vehicle households rather than mass-market appeal, aiming for a 4.2% market share in 2026 despite broader industry skepticism about EV demand.
