A 15-year-old Las Vegas teen, Vaughn Griffith, faces adult charges related to a group sexual assault allegedly recorded during an Alexander Dawson School field trip to Costa Rica. The incident, involving eighth graders, was captured on video. Griffith, a golf champion and former class president, was indicted by a grand jury for possessing a visual depiction of child sexual conduct.

Griffith's case is being handled in the adult system due to the severity of the alleged offense, including filming and distributing the video. The judge cited the heinous nature of the assault and Griffith’s role in recording it. While a psychologist recommended handling the case in juvenile court, the judge prioritized community safety in the decision. The victim reported the incident after initially hesitating.

The alleged assault occurred in April 2025, prompting an investigation by Las Vegas Metro police. The victim stated that the sexual assault involved the use of a flute. Griffith's attorney, Joshua Judd, expressed concern over his client's treatment compared to others. Griffith was released on a $20,000 bail and is under strict conditions.

The Alexander Dawson School at Rainbow Mountain reported the allegations to law enforcement. The school, which serves preschool through eighth grade, has a tuition of $32,500. The victim's attorneys expressed confidence in the judicial system. Griffith pleaded not guilty, and a hearing is scheduled for June 23. The video evidence is sealed by court order.
