Genesis Reliability: Consumer Reports Reveals Major Issues

Genesis vehicles face significant reliability challenges according to Consumer Reports, with every model surveyed scoring below average from owners. The luxury brand, launched by Hyundai in 2017, ranks just above five of 26 car brands in overall reliability, with GMC and Jeep among those scoring lower.

Electronic systems represent the biggest pain point for Genesis owners, including infotainment failures and backup camera issues. Six current models are under recall for electrical system failures, particularly concerning instrument panel malfunctions that could hide critical safety information. The 2026 GV70 faces an additional recall for side curtain airbag problems.

Despite these challenges, there's a glimmer of hope for the brand. All models except the 2026 G80 showed improved or stable reliability scores compared to 2025, with consistent gains in powertrain, suspension, and climate systems. The G80's dramatic decline from above-average to one of the least reliable luxury sedans on the market, falling behind competitors like the BMW 5 Series and Lexus ES, highlights the brand's inconsistency.
