Major rail disruption hit the Netherlands on Tuesday after suspected sabotage, with pipes and cables deliberately placed on tracks at multiple locations. Pro Rail, the railway infrastructure operator, warned of cancellations and delays across the country's centre and north, including Amsterdam, Utrecht, and routes to Schiphol airport. At least 15 disruptions were recorded, affecting services around Zwolle, Deventer, and Amersfoot.

Train operator Nederlandse Spoorwegen said the disruption was too extensive for bus replacements. One train struck an object in Steenwijk, though no injuries were reported. Dutch police launched a criminal investigation and remained at impacted sites to reopen lines.

Footage showed officers removing metal pipes about 1.5 metres long from tracks at Veenendaal. Pro Rail confirmed materials were "deliberately placed" causing section malfunctions. A Eurostar from Amsterdam to Paris faced delays due to "operational restrictions" at Amsterdam Centraal.

France's interior minister Laurent Nunez urged caution while investigations continue. By Tuesday afternoon, train service was gradually resuming with some delays and cancellations. No suspects or motives have been identified.
