The Welsh women's sprint team, comprising Emma Finucane, Rhian Edmonds, and Lowri Thomas, has secured Commonwealth Games gold at the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, defeating England in the final.

The trio set a new Commonwealth Games record of 46.760s to win the gold medal race, improving on the bronze they won at the Birmingham Games in 2022. This victory marked the 18th medal for Team Wales, contributing to their tally of three gold, six silver, and nine bronze medals.

This was Wales' third medal on the opening night of track cycling, following a silver for Para-cyclist James Ball and his guide Matt Rotherham, and bronze for the women's team pursuit. The men's trio was unable to compete for bronze due to a medical withdrawal.
