Prem Rugby introduces salary floor to boost competitive balance

Prem clubs have agreed to introduce a salary floor of £5.4m per season from next season. This minimum spending requirement aims to keep the league as competitive as possible. Each club must now spend at least this amount on player wages, while the existing salary cap remains at £6.4m (£7.8m with credits).

Failure to meet the floor will result in fines equivalent to the shortfall, incentivizing investment. Several clubs are likely to need to pay more to meet the new lower figure. Last season, Bath and champions Bath spent close to £3m more than Bristol's squad wages, highlighting the disparity.

This move reflects renewed confidence in the league's future, with billionaire James Dyson becoming Bath's co-owner this month. Further investment in Prem clubs is believed to be in the pipeline.
