Great Britain's Niall Treacy claimed bronze in the 1,000m at the Short Track Speed Skating World Championships in Montreal, ending a 30-year drought for British men in individual events. The 25-year-old's podium finish marks GB's first global stage appearance since 2017 and represents a significant breakthrough for British short track skating.

Treacy, Team GB's sole short track representative at the recent Winter Games in Italy, described the achievement as the culmination of years of dedication. His medal came just a day after a fifth-place finish in the 1,500m left him disappointed. "To finally have one in my favourite distance is just huge," Treacy said of his World Championship medal. "Now I'll have a World Championship medal for the rest of my life."

South Korea's Rim Jong-un took gold ahead of Netherlands' Jens van T Wout. Treacy's achievement echoes Nicky Gooch's silver in the 1,500m in 1996, the last time a British man stood on an individual World Championship podium in short track speed skating.
