England's men's gymnastics team secured a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, but the achievement was overshadowed by a serious injury to Gabriel Langton. The 19-year-old fell headfirst from the horizontal bar during the final rotation, requiring extensive medical attention. He was eventually stretchered off with his head and neck braced, to applause from the crowd.

Langton, who replaced the injured Max Whitlock, was conscious and moving his limbs before leaving the arena. Team officials later confirmed he was speaking with doctors. His teammates, including Luke Whitehouse, had to refocus after the incident, with Canada ultimately claiming the gold medal, their first in the event in 20 years.

Whitehouse acknowledged the difficulty of continuing after such an event, stating, "Gymnastics is such a dangerous sport and things like this remind us of that." Canada's Felix Dolci expressed sympathy, calling the sport "very difficult and complicated" and "dangerous." Hamish Carter of Team Scotland also offered his thoughts to Langton, noting the gravity of the situation.
