Ipswich Town have signed Daizen Maeda from Celtic on a three‑year contract in a reported £10m deal. The 28‑year‑old, who was part of Japan’s squad at the 2026 World Cup and reached the last 32, scored 79 goals in 212 appearances for Celtic, winning five league titles, three Scottish Cups and two League Cups.

Maeda said his dream of playing in the Premier League is realised with Ipswich, and he aims to battle hard, score and assist. Manager Gary O'Neil calls him a valuable addition thanks to his work ethic, physical attributes and proven goal‑scoring record. Ipswich added him to a squad that also includes Issa Diop, Abdul Fatawu, Emersonn and goalkeeper Kayne van Oevelen.

At Celtic, Maeda joined on loan in late 2022, became permanent the following summer and delivered a standout 2025‑26 season, scoring seven goals in five Premiership matches, including two winners, and netting the decisive goal in the final‑day decider against Hearts. He also opened the Scottish Cup final.

Celtic thanked him for a four‑and‑a‑half‑year stint that made him a fan favourite as Ipswich looks to strengthen its ranks after promotion.
