Noble Yeats, the celebrated 50-1 outsider who captured the 2022 Grand National, has died at age 11 following a bout of colic. The victory marked the final ride of amateur jockey Sam Waley-Cohen's career in one of racing's most memorable upsets.

"He gave us one of the great days of our lives and fulfilled our dreams," Waley-Cohen reflected on the triumph. Owner Robert Waley-Cohen, who purchased the horse just two months before the National, maintained Noble Yeats enjoyed retirement among fellow champions including 2011 Gold Cup winner Long Run.

Robert called it "a grim moment" when the horse showed discomfort Wednesday. Despite veterinary treatment through the night, Noble Yeats couldn't recover from colic. The racing community now mourns one of the sport's most beloved recent champions.
