Britain's Francesca Jones squandered two match points in a heartbreaking first-round loss to Australia's Talia Gibson at the Nottingham Open. Jones rallied from a set and break deficit to force a decider, but Gibson broke back when Jones served for the match at 5-3 in the third set before prevailing 7-6 in the tiebreak. The three-hour, six-minute marathon marked the longest match of Jones' career.

Jones showed tremendous resilience, firing 15 aces while landing 75% of her first serves. She required two medical timeouts during the contest - once for blood pressure checks after appearing distressed, and again at 5-5 in the third set for a nasal issue. Despite the physical struggles, the 25-year-old fought back to claim the second set before falling short in the tiebreak.

World number 66 Gibson proved too strong in the clutch moments, recovering from the brink to advance. The victory provided a confidence boost for the Australian heading into upcoming grass-court events.

Earlier, Olympic champion Zheng Qinwen recovered to defeat Maria Sakkari 4-6 7-6 (7-1) 6-4. Both Emma Raducanu and Katie Boulter withdrew from the tournament on Monday, leaving British interest limited at the event.
