A 'baggy green' cap worn by Don Bradman during Australia's 1947-48 series against India has sold for A$460,000 (£232,000) at auction. The sale sets a new record for a Bradman-worn Test cap, surpassing a previous cap from the same series that sold in 2024. The cap, given to Indian cricketer Sriranga Wasudev Sohoni, had been kept by his family for 75 years and never publicly displayed.

The cap features 'D.G. Bradman' and 'S.W. Sohoni' inscribed inside and is in good condition. With a buyer's premium, the total price reached A$535,900. Sohoni's family maintained strict access, allowing viewing only for brief periods when members turned 16. This series was Bradman's last on home soil, where he scored 715 runs with three centuries as Australia won 4-0.

The anonymous buyer will place the historic cap on display at an Australian museum. For cricket fans, the sale underscores the immense value of memorabilia linked to the sport's greatest-ever batter, who retired with a Test average of 99.94. The previous record-holder cap, though sun-faded and insect-damaged, sold for A$479,700 including premium.
