Antrim hurlers demand meeting over Davy Fitzgerald's future

Antrim senior hurling players have requested an urgent meeting with the county board to resolve confusion over manager Davy Fitzgerald's position. A letter to the Antrim GAA board, seen by BBC Sport NI, revealed conflicting reports about Fitzgerald's potential removal after last weekend's Joe McDonagh Cup defeat to Laois. The squad claimed they initially believed the decision was made to sack him, only to be told no such action occurred.

Antrim GAA chairman Seamus McMullan denied awareness of the matter, calling the situation 'particularly concerning'. Fitzgerald confirmed the events transpired, creating 'uncertainty and a lack of trust' among players. The letter warned that if the board fails to engage, the team may skip training and take further action.

Additionally, players highlighted unresolved gear allocation issues, citing the GPA Players' Charter. Fitzgerald, a former All-Ireland-winning manager with Clare, took charge of Antrim in 2024 after leading Waterford and Wexford. Despite a challenging season with multiple losses, he remains committed to the role.

The squad seeks clarity on Fitzgerald's status and pending equipment deliveries.
