300-1 Longshot Crokes Cross Equals UK Racing Record

A 300-1 shot named Crokes Cross has made history by equalling the UK record for longest-priced winner at Kelso. The Irish-trained mare, making her British debut in a two-mile novice hurdle, surged to victory under jockey Jamie Hamilton, giving trainer Stuart Coltherd his first win since March 2025.

This stunning upset follows the previous record set just in December when Nigel Hawke's Blowers won at the same price at Exeter, surpassing the 34-year-old mark of 250-1 set by Equinoctial in 1990. Crokes Cross finished a length and a quarter ahead of stablemate Changemyluck, who was the 5-2 second favorite in the 10-horse field.

Coltherd admitted he hadn't backed his own horse despite believing both runners were in good form. The trainer suggested recent struggles stemmed from having horses too high in the handicap, though he remained uncertain about what changed for this victory. The result represents one of the most improbable wins in British racing history, with the horse working well at home despite the astronomical odds against her.
