York City have confirmed the exit of manager Stuart Maynard, three months after guiding the club back into the English Football League following a 10‑year absence. The board said the decision stems from a "difference in direction and vision" for the club.

The Minstermen won the National League in dramatic April, scoring an equaliser in the 13th minute of second‑half stoppage time to draw with title rivals Rochdale. They finished the campaign on 108 points, having replaced former Notts County boss Maynard in August 2025.

The statement noted the move may look strange to outsiders but is intended to position the club for long‑term success. It emphasised that the club’s track record of improvement has earned trust, while acknowledging not everyone will agree.

York host Crawley Town in a Carabao Cup preliminary‑round tie on Monday 3 August, and their first League Two fixture is a home match against Bristol Rovers twelve days later.
