York City on brink of promotion as 100-point title race reaches climax

York City travel to Rochdale on Saturday knowing a draw will crown them National League champions. The Minstermen hold a two-point lead over their hosts in what manager Stuart Maynard has called "one of the biggest games in the English football pyramid." More than 4,000 York fans will also watch the match on big screens at LNER Stadium after tickets for Spotland sold out last month.

Both sides have accumulated over 100 points this season - only the second time in four seasons this has happened in the division. York have scored 113 goals, 19 more than any other team in the league. Wrexham won the title with 111 points in 2022-23, while Notts County went up through the play-offs on 107. Despite a draw being sufficient, Maynard insists his side will approach the game to win.

Maynard, who took over in August, believes the travelling York fans can "play a bigger part than they imagine." "The way the York fans have travelled this season, they have been so loud and done the whole city proud," he said. "I back them and know they will be singing from minute one." The match kicks off at 12:30 BST.
