Robinson's Aberdeen defence delivers survival boost

Aberdeen's victory over Kilmarnock has all but secured their Scottish Premiership status. The win, coupled with a previous victory over Hibernian, gave the Dons back-to-back clean sheets for the first time since November. New manager Stephen Robinson has overseen a marked defensive improvement, with his side conceding just 0.54 and 0.19 expected goals in those respective matches while allowing only 26 touches in their own box across both games.

Robinson acknowledged his side were nervous after a bright start, but praised their character. "One thing that hasn't been said about an Aberdeen side for a while is they're hard to beat," he said. Centre-back Liam Morrison, who struggled after his January loan move from Queens Park Rangers, looks more assured under the new management. However, Aberdeen remain the lowest scoring team in the league - a problem that predates Robinson's arrival and stems from their inability to control games from midfield.

The club have signed 20 players since last summer, with few proving successful. Robinson now faces a significant summer rebuild alongside sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel, with the club already discussing targeting players with Scottish football experience. The security of top-flight survival provides a foundation for necessary squad reconstruction.
