Benkenstein smashed 140 off 109 balls, including 15 fours and seven sixes, to guide Essex to a three-run victory over Glamorgan in the Metro Bank One Day Cup. The 21-year-old's maiden county century helped Essex post 312, despite a late collapse that saw them lose their last eight wickets for just 55 runs.

Glamorgan's reply looked doomed at 78-5, but Timm van der Gugten struck an unbeaten 118 from 93 balls, his first professional hundred, and Alex Horton added 85 to take the chase to the final over. Van der Gugten's late six left Glamorgan needing six off the last six balls.

However, Mackenzie Jones held his nerve, conceding just two runs in a tense final over to seal Essex's win. Shane Snater took 3-49 for Essex, while Dan Douthwaite claimed 3-57 for Glamorgan.

The result keeps Essex alive in the competition, while Glamorgan's hopes fade despite a valiant fightback.
