Norway's Viking Photoshoot: Yarrow's Vision for World Cup Squad

British photographer David Yarrow created a viral Viking-themed photoshoot for Norway's World Cup squad, placing stars and squad players equally in the frame. The concept originated during a 2023 international break when Yarrow photographed Erling Haaland alone in Viking costume waist-deep in an Oslo fjord.

Yarrow had previously shot Team Europe in prohibition-era outfits ahead of their Ryder Cup victory, raising over $1 million for Irish charities. When the Norwegian FA approached him four months ago, Haaland - described as the team's unofficial voice - helped coordinate the project. Martin Odegaard's Champions League commitments in Budapest initially complicated scheduling, but the captain joined for a solo session after Arsenal's parade.

The photographer insisted that £200m star Haaland and Watford goalkeeper Egil Selvik receive identical prominence in the shot. "It's not seen to be Haaland and Odegaard and 24 others," Yarrow explained. "That's very important for me."

Yarrow attended Norway's 3-1 friendly win over Sweden, where Jorgen Strand Larsen and Antonio Nusa scored. He believes the squad has genuine depth beyond their two most famous players and could advance far in the tournament, provided they win their opening match.

The image will be displayed at Norway's Greensboro base in North Carolina as the team prepares for World Cup action.
