Solar Eclipse Forces Sport Schedule Changes

The horse racing meeting at Ffos Las in South Wales begins approximately two hours earlier on Wednesday as the UK and parts of Europe prepare for the most significant solar eclipse in nearly three decades, starting shortly after 18:00 BST. At the British Horseracing Authority-managed event, the first race was originally scheduled for 17:40 BST but rescheduled to 15:35 BST. Other sporting events face adaptations; four Hundred cricket matches nationwide will rely on floodlights throughout.

This marks the most dramatic UK total eclipse since 1999 and the first continental European total eclipse in recent years. At Kempton racecourse, races at 19:00 and 19:30 face no disruption as all events were already under floodlights. Unlike the 1999 football match at Plainmoor stadium—which was delayed due to tourist pressures—this event proceeds without major changes.
