Sanjay Bhandari, chair of Kick It Out, will step down at the end of the 2026-27 season after more than seven years. He was appointed in 2019 and has guided the charity founded in 1993. His leadership has been instrumental in expanding the charity's influence nationally.

In 2024, Bhandari received an MBE for his services to football. He said it was a 'tremendous honour' to chair Kick It Out, noting the 'Football United' strategy aims to unite governing bodies, clubs, players, supporters, communities and partners for lasting change. This recognition underscores his commitment to fostering diversity across all levels of the sport.

Bhandari added, 'In a world that often feels negative and divided, we seek to strike a different tone.' The new chair will lead an experienced board and work with the chief executive to uphold Kick It Out's respected voice for equality and inclusion. The appointment will ensure continuity as the organisation navigates future challenges.

During his tenure, Bhandari improved financial independence, governance, appointed a new board and leadership team, and restructured staff. Kick It Out will recruit a successor by December, with the new chair joining on July 1, 2027. The recruitment will focus on candidates with experience in equality advocacy and strategic leadership.
