Northern Ireland Fans Get Tickets After Georgia Game Moved

Northern Ireland supporters who booked travel to Georgia for a Nations League match will now receive tickets after the game was moved behind closed doors. The Irish Football Association confirmed that fans who provided proof of flight and accommodation bookings will be allowed entry to the stadium. Gary McAllister, chairman of the Amalgamation of Official Northern Ireland Supporters Clubs, welcomed the arrangement.

Originally scheduled as an open match, the game against Georgia was moved behind closed doors after Uefa imposed sanctions on the Georgian Football Federation for crowd disorder. Under Uefa regulations, up to 200 visiting supporters can attend such matches with Category 1 tickets. Less than 100 Northern Ireland fans had made prior travel arrangements before the announcement.

The IFA worked with Uefa to secure access for affected supporters after the AONISC advised fans not to book flights when the issue emerged. McAllister noted the association only learned of the problem through Football Supporters Europe before engaging in constructive dialogue with the IFA. While welcoming the outcome for impacted fans, he emphasized that Uefa sanctions continue to affect innocent supporters alongside those responsible for infractions.
