Millwall Apologizes for London City Fixture Clash

Millwall Football Club has issued an apology after scheduling a London City Lionesses match at The Den on Saturday, 21 March, which conflicted with Millwall Lionesses' supporters. The Women's Super League fixture between London City and Chelsea was moved forward from Sunday due to Chelsea's Champions League quarter-final commitments.

The scheduling decision sparked controversy because London City was created in 2019 after splitting from Millwall Lionesses. Millwall's supporters club reacted angrily, accusing London City of "stealing" Millwall Lionesses' position in women's football and rejecting the arrangement on social media. The club acknowledged that "more thorough consultation should have taken place" and "sincerely apologise for the upset this caused."

In response to the backlash, Millwall has pledged that all revenue from the fixture will be reinvested back into Millwall Lionesses. The club also guaranteed their women's team one game per season at The Den, enhanced marketing services, and established a working group between the club, Millwall Lionesses, and Millwall Community Trust. The supporters club has welcomed the club's acknowledgment of their mistake and expressed willingness to work together
