Kang says Lionesses can go all the way after star signings

Michele Kang, the billionaire owner of London City Lionesses, insists the club can go all the way this season after an expensive and headline‑making summer of signings. The move to bring in two‑time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas alongside former England No.1 Mary Earps and four‑time Champions League winner Mapi Leon sends a clear message that London City will shake up the WSL.

Kang says the ambition is both short‑ and long‑term: a WSL title, qualification for European competition and a stronger, more competitive league overall. “With Putellas’ arrival and other players, the league will be more compelling,” she told Sky Sports in New York.

Financially, the club is pushing the limits of the WSL salary cap, adding players such as Germany forward Nicole Anyomi and expanding commercial revenue streams. Kang argues that a flexible system will help newly promoted teams survive and thrive.

As the only top‑flight team not affiliated with a men’s club, London City must generate every pound of revenue – a challenge that could redefine independence in English women’s football.
