Fenerbahce midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has received a four-match European ban - with two of those games suspended - and been fined 50,000 euros (£43,000) for his part in a brawl following their Champions League play-off win at Lyon. Mason Greenwood, the Turkish side's English striker, has been given a one-match suspended ban which, like Guendouzi's, "is subject to a probationary period of one year" and fined 30,000 euros (£26,000).

Lyon goalkeeping coach Antonio Ferreira has been handed a five-match ban, with two of those matches suspended, for what Uefa said was "serious assault" in clashes which took place following Fenerbahce's win, which sent them through to the league stage with a 3-2 aggregate victory. Guendouzi was punished for "insulting others present at the match, provoking spectators and for violating the basic rules of decent conduct".

Greenwood, who moved to Fenerbahce from Lyon's fierce rivals Marseille in the summer, was penalised for "violating the basic rules of decent conduct". Both clubs were also fined 50,000 euros "for its team violating the general and basic rules of conduct".

Former Arsenal midfielder Guendouzi, who played for Marseille between 2021 and 2024, was repeatedly booed by Lyon supporters during the match. He appeared to taunt sections of the French home support following Fenerbahce's victory and team-mates ushered him away as tempers flared. After the scuffle at full-time, Guendouzi was seen shouting "Allez l'OM" towards a pitchside camera, referencing Marseille.
