Fenerbahce Presidential Candidates Target Mason Greenwood Transfer

Mason Greenwood has emerged as the primary transfer target for both candidates in Fenerbahce's presidential election. The former Manchester United forward joined Marseille permanently in July 2024, but sporting director Gregory Lorenzi recently confirmed the French club would consider offers for the 24-year-old.

Greenwood has rebuilt his career in Ligue 1 after legal charges were dropped in February 2023, though United's internal investigation prevented his return. He scored 48 goals in 81 appearances for Marseille, finishing joint-second in this season's Ligue 1 golden boot race with 16 goals. Tottenham's Roberto De Zerbi apologised in April for previous comments defending Greenwood.

The Turkish giants finished runners-up for a fifth consecutive season and will enter the Champions League at the second qualifying round. Both Aziz Yildirim and Hakan Safi view Greenwood as essential for their project, with the presidential announcement scheduled for Sunday. Personal terms are not expected to complicate any potential deal.

United inserted a significant sell-on clause when selling Greenwood for £26.6m last summer, while Roma have also been linked with the striker. This transfer would represent a major coup for whichever candidate wins the Fenerbahce presidency.
