A former Accrington Stanley footballer has been charged with attempted murder following a shooting in Merseyside. Patrick Lacey, 32, who previously played for Tranmere Rovers, Manchester United's academy, and Liverpool's academy, is among four men accused in the November incident.

Lacey, along with John Jones, 35, John Hughes, 31, and Bernard Flynn, 61, faces multiple charges including conspiracy to murder and possession of a shotgun with intent to endanger life. The charges stem from a shooting on Radway Road in Huyton that left a man in his 20s critically injured.

Merseyside Police executed coordinated warrants across Knowsley, Sefton, and Liverpool, leading to the arrests. Det Insp Chris Clark urged the public to come forward with any information, emphasizing that even seemingly minor details could be valuable to the ongoing investigation.
