Scotland midfielder Erin Cuthbert says being named vice-captain for the Women's World Cup qualifying campaign is 'a great honour' that she never expected in her career. The 83-cap international helped Scotland secure a 5-0 victory over Luxembourg on Tuesday, registering two assists in the convincing win.

Cuthbert reflected on head coach Melissa Andreatta's decision to name her as vice-captain alongside new captain Caroline Weir. 'Playing for your country, never mind representing and being one of the big leaders in the team, is a great honour,' she said. The 27-year-old emphasized that her leadership approach remains unchanged whether wearing the armband or not.

New manager Andreatta has impressed Cuthbert with her positive influence on the squad. 'The gaffer's a breath of fresh air, new energy, new focus,' Cuthbert said, noting that Andreatta has 'instilled a real belief' in the team. Scotland, who last appeared at a major tournament in 2019, aims to qualify for the 2027 Women's World Cup in Brazil. With her experience from previous campaigns, Cuthbert believes the squad's resilience will be crucial for success.
