Real Madrid midfielder Caroline Weir has been officially appointed captain of Scotland, replacing Rachel Corsie who retired in June. Weir led Scotland in six of their past seven internationals and will now serve as full-time captain alongside vice-captain Erin Cuthbert for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Luxembourg on March 3 and 7.

The 28-year-old expressed her honor and excitement about taking on the leadership role, calling it "such a proud moment for me and my family." Weir emphasized the responsibility she feels and noted her excitement to work alongside "so many natural leaders within this squad" as Scotland begins their qualification journey for Brazil 2027.

Scotland manager Melissa Andreatta has made several changes to the squad for the double-header against Luxembourg, with Hibernian forward Kathleen McGovern returning to the squad after making her first start since November. Charlton defender Charlotte Newsham could earn her first cap, while Liverpool's Martha Thomas and Rangers' Leah Eddie were omitted despite recent positive performances.
